Redesigned SAT: New Informational Website

At you will find short essays covering the primary changes to the SAT, including sample items. This information is not just about what is changing, but why. You will also find a PDF containing the full test specifications (.pdf/4.47MB) — a specific and comprehensive look at what students will encounter on the redesigned SAT.

The College Board is releasing these materials two years in advance of the first administration of the redesigned SAT so that every student who takes the redesigned SAT will know exactly what to expect on the day of the test. Radford’s Summer Bridge Program

The Radford University College of Science and Technology Summer Bridge program is a week-long residential experience for rising sophomore, junior, and senior high school girls interested in science, technology, and mathematics. The 2014 edition of the program will take place from Sunday, July 13 – Friday, July 18, 2014.

Thanks to many generous donors and sponsors of the program, full scholarships will be awarded competitively to participants. The scholarships cover all costs of the program for recipients.

Scholarships to Summer Bridge are awarded competitively and cover the full cost of the program. Scholarship recipients will be sent letters of acceptance by May 16, 2014. Students who do not receive scholarships and want to participate in Summer Bridge, may have the option of paying $400, the cost of tuition, room and board, to attend.


Participants are expected to share a room in on-campus housing (double occupancy). Roommates will be assigned.


Participants or participants’ parents/guardians are responsible for transportation to the Radford University campus on Sunday, July 13, 2014and back home on Friday, July 18, 2014.

Radford Summer Bridge Program

C-Tech2 – Registration deadline has been extended to April 1st

Virginia Tech’s College of Engineering invites rising high school junior and senior female students to participate in C-Tech2 – Computers and Technology at Virginia Tech from June 29 – July 12, 2014. A primary focus of the program is to help develop and sustain the interests of women in engineering. Participants will spend the majority of their time involved in hands-on activities designed to increase interest in and knowledge of applications of engineering, math, and science to real world situations. The cost of the program is $1500 and includes all housing, meals and activities for the two week program. There are financial need scholarships available. For more information visit our website at:

VCU School of Dentistry summer programs

What: Dental Career Exploration (DCE) – For those interested in dentistry

 When: DCE: July 7, 2014 – July 18, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
DHCE: June 24, 2014 – June 26, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Extra: Both programs are free and lunch will be provided! Students must provide their own transportation to and from the program everyday. Students from outside of the metro-Richmond area are welcome to apply, as long as they have reliable transportation.

Summer 2014 Fredericksburg Regional Summer Governor’s School

Summer 2014 Fredericksburg Regional Summer Governor’s School applications are now available. In order to participate you must be a rising 10th, 11th, or 12th grader and have been identified as gifted.  There is a chemistry/forensic science program and a mentor program offered. See Dr. Burruss in the School Counseling Dept. for an application. The deadline is March 17, 2014.

2014 Ag Discovery Program

The 2014 AgDiscovery Program, which is sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture, is a 2-4 week summer camp for middle school and high school students.  It is a great opportunity for youth with an interest in Agriculture/Veterinary medicine and other agriculture-related fields.  There are 17 venues, all Land-Grant Colleges or Universities across the U.S. that will host camps this summer.  Each venue has a unique focus.  Virginia’s own Virginia State University is hosting an AgDiscovery camp this year for the third time!   Please click the following link for the full brochure:  The VSU program is explained on page 14.  Also, you will notice a picture from the 2013 VSU program on the front cover.  All AgDiscovery camps are FREE, as parents/guardians will only need to provide transportation for participants.  ***STUDENTS’ APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED OR POSTMARKED BY MARCH 31st FOR ALL CAMPS***
