How I Spent My Summer Break

The counseling department wishes a happy summer to all of our students. We were very pleased with the way you made the best of challenging circumstances to finish the spring semester and we’re looking forward to getting back as soon as possible.

For many students, summer is a crucial time whether you are planning to go to college or trade school after graduation, enlist in the armed forces or get a job. It’s a time when you can take college visits, participate in enrichment programs, meet with recruiters, and get valuable work or volunteer experience.

Unfortunately some of those opportunities may not exist for our students this summer. We would therefore encourage everyone to make use of your time this summer to the best of your ability.

Think about a personal project you can work on. Do you have a list of books you’d like to read? Maybe you would like to learn a new language or some basic coding skills. Maybe you will commit to a fitness plan to be in the best shape of your life.

Regardless of what you plan to do after graduation, you can make yourself stand out by spending your summer on something that means something to you. Colleges and employers especially may be impressed at your creativity and initiative. More importantly, you deserve the opportunity to explore your interests and enrich yourself on a personal level.

We have added a tab above, “Summer Ideas.” You will find some resources and suggestions for ways to spend your summer, but as always you can reach out to your school counselor. We’ll be happy to help you find what you’re looking for.
